Confined Space

The Confined Spaces in Construction standard is effective August 3, 2015 for Federal property.  Virginia has until January 3, 2016 to revise and implement their Confined Space Standard for the Construction Industry, which applies to all construction work in Virginia that is not on Federal property.

This course covers the OSHA Confined Spaces in Construction standard, 29 CFR 1926 Subpart AA and the Virginia Confined Space Standard for the Construction Industry, 16VAC25-140.

The Virginia standard requires that the employer inform his employees of the hazards of working in confined spaces by providing specific training to employees before they may be authorized to enter a confined space.  This training satisfies this requirement.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Hazard Recognition

  • Use of atmospheric testing equipment (The employer must provide an instrument for the hands on portion of the class)

  • Lockout and tagging procedures

  • Use of special equipment and tools

  • Emergency and rescue methods and procedures.

  • Duties of the supervisor, attendant, and entrant

NOTE: We provide instruction on the specific make and model of instrument that will be used to determine if the atmosphere of the confined space is safe for personnel, therefore an instrument with the appropriate calibration gas must be provided for use in the class.

Length: This class normally last 4 hours

Location: We will come to you and provide the training at a location that is convenient to your employees.
